See what others are saying about Classy Kids Consignment!

When my family of four turned into a family of seven overnight with the birth of triplet girls my ability to spend lots of money on clothes flew out the window. My love of good fashion did not. I still wanted all of my children to be dressed well but buying for five is entirely different then buying for two. I quickly began searching for ways to get great clothes on a small budget.

Fortunately for me I didn’t have to look far. A friend of mine asked casually if I had been to Classy Kids Consignment at the Prince William County Fairgrounds. I was shocked. I had no idea that a consignment sale was so close to my home. I had to check it out.

What I found was a great selection of very nice clothing and toys. Lots of clothing brand names from babies on up to juniors. There was also a huge selection of baby products like cribs, mobiles, highchairs, entertainers and toys. Tables were full of toys and books for boys and girls alike. Everything was organized and easy to find. As items sold, tables were consolidated for easier shopping.

Once I checked out their website I decided I had to volunteer and consign. After all, their volunteers get to shop early which means they get to find the best deals and of course I couldn’t pass up a chance to make some extra money on the things by children no longer needed.

I filled out the form on the website and was immediately contacted by their volunteer coordinator, Deb. She scheduled me for twelve hours so that I could shop before other volunteers and consignors. Volunteering was fun and easy. I met a lot of new moms, got away from my kids for a while and got to have fun sorting clothes and toys.

Classy Kids makes consigning just as easy as volunteering. In fact, they are coming up with a new program to help you tag and track your items. What could be easier? With a checklist on the website it’s easy to follow the instructions and have your items as ready as they can be for the sale. Need a tagging gun? (And trust me, if you don’t have one you need one) Classy Kids has one for you at just $12.50. Much cheaper then anywhere else and a lifesaver for any consignor.

Wondering why you should bother with consigning? I mean, isn’t it too much work? The truth is that the payoff is well worth the effort. Putting together a yard sale can be time consuming and the amount you can get for your items is very small. And then you have to worry about bartering with whoever happens to look at your items. How much better to tag all your items, drop them off and then let them sell themselves? In fact, if you don’t want your items sold for less then what you have priced them, then mark your tags and they won’t be sold for half-price.

Seem like too much work? Get some friends together and have a tagging party. I often had a friend over and we tagged items while our babies slept. We had a great time chatting and getting work done. Certainly didn’t seem like work at the time.

Classy Kids also offers a family fun day during the sale. What a great chance to take the kids, have some fun and get some shopping done. I brought my kids and they got their faces painted, got to jump on a moon bounce and eat some ice snow cones. They had a great time and I got a chance to pick up a few extra toys while I was there.

The next sale is scheduled for March 5-9, 2008 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds. I know I’ll be there, I hope to see you! Some tips for consigning:

  • Make sure all of your items are seasonally appropriate
  • Check over your items carefully for stains, rips, or missing parts – offer the best you have
  • Items should be clean and as wrinkle-free as possible, toys should be wiped down
  • The better your clothing or other item looks the better it will sell
  • Price items carefully – if you want too much it may not sell
  • Brand names and newer items sell better – you can ask for more if your items are newer
  • Follow the guidelines on the website (checklist is under “Consignors”)
